NEW!! FLINDERS RANGES ART WORKSHOP
with Janet Ayliffe
14-20 April, 2012
The Flinders Ranges have inspired artists since the
first European explorers traversed them in the 1840's.
The shapes of the ancient ranges, the majestic river
red gums and the ever-changing colours of distant hills
and bluffs have been captured by our best painters and
photographers. Janet Ayliffe is a noted South Australian
painter, print maker and art educator who has agreed
to conduct a workshop with us. Suitable for beginners
and those with some experience .

ALPINE RAMBLING:
The Bogong High Plains:
27 December, 2012 - 1 January, 2013
Situated in the north east of the state, Victoria's
Alpine National Park is an area of great natural beauty
and rich cultural heritage. It is the highest part of
Victoria rising to 1900 metres. In winter, it is snow
covered above 1500 metres, but snowfalls down to 1000
metres are not uncommon. In summer, the weather is generally
fine and warm, but at least 10o Celsius cooler than
the nearby plains. These warmer months produce a burst
of alpine wildflowers.

EASTER CANOE TOUR:
Chowilla, SA
6-9 April, 2012
The Chowilla wetlands are a series of quiet backwaters
of the mighty Murray River where the three state borders
of Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia meet.
River flow is very slow and safe; ideal conditions for
novice canoeists. The many channels are lined with huge
river red-gums, some of which bear ancient scars where
Aboriginal people used stone axes to make bark canoes.
The area is an important wetland reserve and home to thousands
of water birds.

FLINDERS RANGES & HEYSEN TRAIL: SA
14-20 April, and 22-28 September, 2012
Stretching 420 kilometres northwards into the arid heart
of Australia, the Flinders Ranges are famous for their
rugged mountain scenery. They have the red and purple
colours of the Australian outback and some of the oldest
rocks on earth, about 1400 million years old. They are
also a favourite area for photographers and artists. There
are rocky bluffs, tree-lined gorges, shady pools, majestic
river red gums, and diverse flora. They are home to kangaroos,
euros, wallabies, emus, colourful parrots, kites and eagles.
